Majuli is the cultural heart of Assam’s Neo-Vaishnavite tradition, founded by SrimantaSankardeva.Majuli is famous for ‘Satras’. They are unique monastic institutions in Assam, India, associated with the Vaishnavism. Satras are not just religious centers but also serve as hubs for traditional performing arts, culture, and social life. Founded by the revered saint Sankardeva in the 15th century, Satras played a crucial role in shaping Assamese society.Important satras include AuniatiSatra, KamalabariSatra, DakhinpatSatra, and GarhmurSatra.

Surrounded by the Brahmaputra River, Majuli offers lush green landscapes, rice fields, bamboo huts, and serene water bodies.

The sunrises and sunsets over the river are breathtaking.

The island is inhabited mostly by Mishing, Deori, and Assamese communities, each with their distinct traditions.Tourists can witness traditional weaving, fishing, and mask-making (especially in SamaguriSatra).

Majuli is  also a haven for migratory birds, especially in the winter.Birds like Pelicans, Siberian cranes, Whistling teals, and storks can be spotted.
