Kaziranga National Park

Kaziranga National Park is one of the most celebrated wildlife sanctuaries in India and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Situated on the banks of the mighty Brahmaputra it is famous for Big five of North-East India i.e. Greater One-HornedRhinoceros, Asian Elephants,Royal BengalTigers, Wild Water BuffaloesandSwamp Deer (Dol Horin).The Hills of adjacent Karbi-Anglong is famous for  hosting endangered species like Hollock Gibbon, Binturong etc. Kaziranga, which is also an Project Tiger also hosts Over 480 species of birds (both migratory and resident)Various reptiles and fish species including Several threatened and endangered species.

The park is located in the floodplains of the Brahmaputra River. Dominated by tall elephantgrass, marshland, and tropical moist broadleaf forests. The landscape is shaped by seasonal floods, which are essential for maintaining the park’s ecosystem.

  • Safari options:
    • Jeep Safaris – popular for deeper exploration
    • Elephant Safaris – unique way to observe rhinos at close range (available in limited zones)
  • Best Time to Visit: November to April (park is closed during the monsoon season, June to September)
  • Distance: Kohora, where the Head Quarter of Kaziranga and most of the Resorts, Guest houses are situated is about 215 Km away from state capital Guwahati and it takes about 4.5 hours to reach.
